With December fast approaching, it’s the time again to get an advent calendar! When was the last time you had one?
For me it was, I think, a few years ago. When I was a small girl, every year on the Mikuláš (Saint Nicolas) day, me and my sisters got an advent calendar with small chocolates. Then I remember one year when I got an advent calendar with tea bags. It was something unusual and I remember the flavours were great.
When I grew older, at some point, for some mysterious reasons I can’t understand, I suddenly stopped getting advent calendars. By that time I was, however, able to buy them myself. I remember I always had one on my writing table during the university years. I usually stuck to the chocolate ones.
Today there’s such a big variety of advent calendars – you can have calendars filled with cosmetics, beer, Lego, jewellery, yankee candles… or various types of food and drinks, of course.
Last year I did some research and came up with a few posts summarizing the best foodie advent calendars I found in three categories:
Check them out, many of these will be for sure available this year as well.
It doesn’t matter if you would buy it for yourself or for somebody else – which one is your favourite?
This post brought me back to when I was a kid and was of course also getting advent calendars for Mikuláš. I loved them and was always waiting with much suspense what the last chocolate shape will be (it usually was a bell). These days, I’d prefer a booze advent calendar. Great idea 🙂

It´s true – the last chocolate was usually a bell. I wonder if it was because we use the bell to summon the family around the tree or why…
