Street art Saturday: Bilbao

This is the sixth episode of my street art series, this time from Bilbao! You can find links to the previous posts from the series at the bottom of the page.

We spent only a weekend in Bilbao. We went there last year in January and it was one of our favourite weekend breaks. If you can, go there. It’s an ideal city to visit just in two days. And even January can be warm – on the sun we were walking in short sleeves.

The best thing about Bilbao is its food, mainly pintxos (Basque for tapas), small snacks in a myriad or variations. Then the landscape – I like hills or mountains and Bilbao is surrounded by them. And there is also quite some street art to be found around the city, not even talking about the “real” art in the Guggenheim museum etc.

Let’s start with this scene. This bridge is on the Salbeko Zubia road just next to the Guggenheim museum. I love the graffiti, but also the colours and lines in the photo:

Then we saw this crazy mural painting. And once we even spotted we were monitored by a couple of sheep! How peculiar.

Then we spotted a nice educational picture:

This is my second favourite graffiti from Bilbao (the first one is the one under the bridge). It’s a good example that it’s possible to nicely decorate otherwise boring public corners with graffiti. The drawing on the last photo is not really a graffiti but a nicely drawn shopping window cover, however I decided to include it too, because it is creative and very pretty.

 

That’s it from Bilbao. There might not be any Street art Saturday posts in the next two weeks, but I shall be back in March!
